Turath and Being and Uncle
“I would ask Luna, but she is just so tied up with Lorelai that I couldn’t bring myself to.” Elenwe explained patiently to Turath. Turath just looked at her with a look of suffering.
Elenwe laughed and handed her son and daughter to Turath, who looked at them strangely. Both infants were sleeping. “If you need help, Linwe knows how to take care of children. She did a great job with Luna.” Elenwe smirked, kissed her children, and ran toward her horse and mounted. Turath just watched. He knew that Luna wouldn’t be able to handle two infants more while dealing with a Lorelai who was still a baby (and one) and Arteden, a toddler with his hands in everything. At least the twins were quiet.
Turath headed back to his home with the twins. Once there, Linwe swooped on them, and snagged the babies from his hands. “Their so…precious!” She gurgled. Turath stared in amazement at his wife. She could beat him at stoic ness, but apparently not where babies were concerned. A knock at the door disrupted all that, and Turath answered. There stood Luna, looking hassled and as if she were about to break at the seams. In her arms she held a squirming Lorelai, and she held the hand of Arteden. Turath allowed her entrance.
“Linwe. Arteden put something in his mouth and swallowed it, and he won’t tell me what…” Luna almost whined. Turath held out his hands for the squirming Lorelai, and Luna placed the baby in his arms. He liked Lorelai, she had a sense of adventure, but then again, Turath liked all his family’s kids. But no sooner was Lorelai in his arms did the baby start screaming. Luna turned.
“Oh…” She took Lorelai and tried to soothe her. She looked like she was going to just pass out any moment. Turath took the twins from Linwe, and placed them in the double cradle that Fai had brought over for them when Elenwe came. He turned back around and took Lorelai and held the now-sleeping baby. Luna sighed in relief and walked over to where Linwe was talking to Arteden.
“Arteden…please tell Amme and Linwe what you ate.” Luna said, calmly. Artenden shook his head, and Luna sighed. “Arteden, Amme is not giving you a choice. Tell Linwe what you ate.” She said with exaggerated patience. Arteden giggled. Luna sighed. “It’s been like this all morning. Elrohir tried, I’ve tried, even Fai tried, and so did Porenn, Silar, and Islena. We can’t get him to tell us.” Her shoulders drooped.
Linwe nodded and looked at Arteden seriously. His big silver-green eyes stared back at her. “Arteden, Amme, me, and Uncle Turath want to know what you ate.” Arteden giggled and poked Linwe in the eye. Linwe’s hands flew up to her face and Luna grabbed her sons wrist.
“Arteden Elrohirion, you wait until we get home.” She said, but her voice quivered. Turath stepped in.
“Luna…why don’t you go home and get some rest. Linwe and I will get Fai and Elladan to help us here.”
“But! My son! My daught—“
“No buts! Go home, and get some rest, or shall I call guards to take you home?”
Luna sighed, “Fine.” She left the house, her pace angry, but Turath could swear she was arguing out of protective maternal instinct. Valar knew Moriwen did it enough times. And, ten to one, Luna would do paper work instead of sleep.
