History will Never Remember

"Luna!" was all Luna heard before she and the army she was with were plunged into a battle, where many other humans and elves were already fighting. This was a fairly large battle. Throughout history, there are many wars that would go on unknown, and this would be one of them. Luna and her friends, as well as large armies of elves and humans, were fighting what felt like a million orcs.

Kerowyn allowed herself to feel a moment of relief and triumph, now those orcs would pay. Luna was here, in her warrior mode, as well as an army. "Bout time!" someone grunted behind Kerowyn. It was Searyn. He had wound up fighting right behind Kerowyn. Kerowyn turned and plunged a sword into an orcs chest, and black blood spilled over her fingers. She wrinkled her nose in disgust. She turned.

"Where is Lindir!" she yelled to Searyn. Searyn killed off another orc before yelling an answer back.

"He's near the twins--" Searyn cut off, hearing a terror filled scream. An orc had grabbed a village woman, not any woman, but one with child. Searyn cursed.

Before he could move, Luna was there, cutting the orc down. But Luna failed to notice the orc behind her. The sun glinted off of the black sword of the foe. Searyn jumped forward, a warning on his lips. "Luna Look OUT!" he shouted, but the warning came too late. To him and Kerowyn, the whole battlefield stood still. There was a shriek from Kerowyn as the sword hit its mark, stabbing Luna in the shoulder, dangerously close to the heart. But Luna didn't even falter. She quite calmly killed the orc. She continued to fight, killing orcs the way one would kill flies. Searyn knew her well enough to know that adrenaline would keep Luna going, and she would not register at all that she was in pain until the battle was over.

He turned. Even though Luna was okay, he still had a battle to fight. There were so many orcs, and not enough people to help them. Searyn chopped and hacked his way through the hordes to get to the twins and Lindir, and to help the village women they were protecting. There was noise, so much noise on a battle field.

~~~
Elrohir was fighting. He knew from the yells of the armies that Luna and her army had finally arrived. But now he saw nothing, and heard nothing other than his men being killed, and killing. He knew that this sound was all over the battle field, and it would continue for many hours yet, until the battle was won. He saw and opening and ran for it, determined to get to where Luna and Kerowyn were, to signal for a meeting of all the generals, and leaders. That involved all of them. He signaled Kerowyn, who in turn got Luna.
~~~

The twins and Searyn made their way to the tent. Lindir following behind, still shooting off arrows. Kerowyn was running toward them, and Luna trailed a ways behind them. When she got closer, Elrohir noticed she was sweating. No surprise, considering how this battle was going. Searyn joined him, saw Luna and walked over to her.

“Luna….are you alright?” Searyn asked, worry filling his voice.

“I’m fine…a little winded.” Luna responded, voice tight with an emotion Searyn couldn’t place. He looked at her, and decided that she was angry at the orcs. She walked into the tent. For a glimmer of a moment, Searyn could have sworn she was not hurt, and that there was only a young warrior there.

~~~
Inside the tent, strategy was not working very well. Everyone’s tempers were running short, and no one could come up with a good strategy without someone else shooting it down. Elladan slammed a fist down on the table. “Dammit! We need to come up with a good strategy, or there will be no victory flowing in our wine cups tomorrow!” he yelled. Luna stood, her eyes going dangerously gray.
“What do you think we are trying to do!” she yelled. “Sit here and drink tea! You’re not the only one who wants victory Elladan Peredhil!” She shouted; temper getting the better of her.
Elladan reared back as if Luna had delivered a physical blow. “Well at least I am not sitting here, contributing nothing to the discussion table! And at least I was here from the beginning of the battle…Unlike someone I could mention!”
Luna went dangerously still. “I am contributing…with logical ideas. Why is that you always rush into battle? My army would have come in and destroyed whatever was in place and found ourselves utterly cut off!” Luna practically spit the words out. She was furious. Elrohir held up a calming hand.
“Please, calm down. Right now we are not contributing anything to the armies out there, fighting to save the village and its people.” Elrohir looked at a map. He looked as though he had an idea. He barely finished telling the group, when a harassed looking soldier popped his head in the tent
“My lords and ladies, the army’s are too much, we need you out there!” He shouted. Luna and the others looked at each other, grabbed their weapons and ran outside, battling their way back to their armies. Luna, Kerowyn, and Searyn all going together. The twins and Lindir went a different way, toward the river, to cut of the orcs leadership and messages. Searyn went to his army and mounted his horse. Luna nodded to her archers as Searyn began his assault. The Calvary would cut off the orcs base, and close in on them from behind. The twins and Linder’s armies were going to also push the orcs toward Luna’s archers. She only hoped that there would be enough of them. The assault came on full blast. Luna took one look and knew that she didn’t have enough people. She found herself completely immersed in battle. There were so many orcs.
She felt a sudden jab of pain. The wound on her shoulder was bleeding sluggishly, and Luna knew she was overusing it. She turned and continued fighting, ignoring the pain for now. As she turned to gut another orc, a large, black hand grabbed her arm. Luna shrieked, desperately trying to get out of his grasp, but the orc’s hand tightened. In a last ditch effort, Luna twisted her arm downward, hoping to dislodge her arm. No such effect. Instead her arm snapped and her eyes watered. The orc had broken her arm, her sword arm, and now she had no means of protecting herself.
She turned and saw that her numbers were diminishing too quickly for her liking. She quickly sent out a mental message to Lindir and Searyn, calling for retreat. She yelled, to the troops, “Retreat! Retreat!” They turned and moved away. Luna ran among her troops, and didn’t see the dead bodies around her. All she could focus on was the numb sensation in her arm. She kept running, and suddenly jolted to the ground. Cursing, she attempted to get up. “Dammit!” she yelled.
A soldier appeared before her, not one of hers. He offered his hand and she grabbed it, standing up. As soon as she put her full weight on her knee, she let another string of curses that made the soldier blanch. She apologized and limped away, trying to yell commands. A soldier appeared before her. “Lady Luna! The orcs have surrounded us!” he shouted. Luna let out yet another curse. In a single instant, they had changed from predator to prey.
“We’ll have to stand our ground and fight!” she shouted. “Archers! Ready your bows!” she yelled. Her army, what little was left of it, tensed the bow strings. “On my signal….NOW!” she shouted, the warrior in her taking over. She grabbed a dagger from her waist and sent it flying. She nailed an orc directly in the eye. Black blood oozed out.
Elrohir watched as the orc army did exactly as they had planned. It headed straight for Luna’s archers. But after about ten minutes, he noticed something was wrong. Luna’s army was too easily out numbered, and the orcs were pushing the back. He knew the choice she had to make, stay or fight, or retreat and save lives. Elrohir knew exactly what she would choose. Just as he thought, Luna’s army turned and retreated, but something was really wrong. The army did not go too far. Why did they stop? Elladan turned and looked at his twin. “Ro…what are they doing!? Luna knows better than to call retreat and not retreat!” Elladan yelled.
A messenger rode up. His armor bore the markings of Searyn’s army. “My Lords…Lord Searyn sent me to tell you that Luna’s army is completely surrounded by orcs, and there is too few of them left!” The messenger yelled. Elrohir started. This was bad…very, very, very, bad. He, Elladan and Lindir all looked at each other and then ran toward where the cluster of orcs was.
Lindir turned back and saw the now confused messenger standing there. “Tell Searyn to pull his troops back and to stop the onward assault! GO!” He shouted, and then ran to catch up with the twins.
Luna knew she was fighting a losing battle. There were too many orcs and too little of her fellow elves. “Where the hell are the other armies!” she shouted in desperation.
“They are coming now!” a soldier cried, pointing at a large mass of green and gold, Rivendell’s colors. “Oh thank the Valar!” Luna yelled.
As soon as the full power of the combined armies struck, the orcs number diminished. Luna finally had the time to stop and take a breath. She watched the battle unfold, and hopefully fold up.
A pain filled scream filled Luna’s ears. A lower class soldier was being attacked by an orc, and was stabbed in the shoulder. “No!” Luna yelled. She grabbed her other dagger by the blade and threw it aiming for the Orcs temple. Sure enough, the dagger hit it’s mark. Luna ran to the collapsed soldier and kneeled beside her.
Elrohir could not help but feel discouraged as he tried to get to the center of the orc army. Little by little the orcs numbers lessened. Finally, the twins, Searyn, Kerowyn, and Lindir could break into the inner circle. Elrohir watched as Luna took aim and through a dagger, a lethal shot that anyone would be lucky to survive. He could not help but feel a sense of pride as the orc was killed. He watched as Luna ran to a fallen soldier, and kneeled. Elrohir smiled, despite the grimness of the situation. Then the smile vanished. A shadow appeared over Luna, and she was oblivious to it. The shadow was an orc and he had a knife. “NO!” Elrohir yelled. Elladan, Lindir, and Searyn all looked toward Luna. They registered what was about to happen, and all jumped forward. But they were too late. The orc dropped the blade toward his target and Luna yelled. Elrohir looked on in horror as the orc twisted the blade out from Luna’s back. But to his, Elladan’s, Lindir’s, and Searyn’s amazement, Luna stood up, and jammed an arrow into the orc’s head. She kept one hand clutched at her stomach, and she was pale and sweating. Elrohir cursed and ran over to her.
“Luna!” he exclaimed.
Luna waved an arm at him. “I’m fine…we still need to fight the battle…” she said, each word like a gasp. Then she straightened and a glimmer of anger came into her eyes. “Let’s kill these sons of bitches and be done here.” She said, and grabbed one of her daggers from a dead body. Within seconds she was firing arrows and throwing her dagger. Elrohir reluctantly wielded his sword and started to fight. It would only be a few more minutes until the battle was over. When it was, it was Searyn who delivered the final blow.
The twins, Kerowyn, Lindir, Searyn, and Luna all made their way to the tent where they had their strategy meetings and collapsed in the shade of a nearby tree. In all of the confusion of the last moments of battle, Luna’s injuries were forgotten. Luna leaned against the cool bark and felt her eyes close. Kerowyn lay on the ground, her head upon Lindir’s shoulder. The twins stood, Elrohir leaning against the tree and Elladan surveying the battlefield. Searyn stood, a few feet away, conferring with a sentry on the battle counts.
Searyn walked over to where the group stood. “I hate to say this now, but there is still work to be done…we still need to dispose of the dead bodies and burn them, as well as help rebuild the village. Elrohir nodded, and Lindir poked Kerowyn, bringing her out of a light doze.
“Do we have to get up now?” Kerowyn murmured. “I’m so tired…I could sleep for days…” she mumbled. Lindir nodded and Held out his hand to her. Kerowyn grabbed it and Lindir pulled her up to her feet.
Elrohir kneeled next to Luna, who looked like she was sleeping. He gently tapped her right shoulder. “Luna….time to wake up…” he said. When she didn’t respond, he shook her a little bit. She still didn’t move. Elrohir looked up at Elladan, who knelt down beside him.
“What’s up?” Elladan asked.
“I can’t get Luna to wake up?” Elrohir replied.
“Let me try.” Elladan said, and he tapped Luna’s left shoulder. He pulled his hand away and was stunned to see it was covered with a red substance. He held it to his nose and sniffed it, then looked at it more closely. He gasped. “Elrohir…is Linwe in the healing tents?”
Elrohir looked confused. “I don’t know, I haven’t been there all day!” he said back. “Why?”
Elladan looked at his brother, fear evident in his eyes. “Luna needs a healer…now!” he said. The urgency in his voice brought Kerowyn over to them.
“Whats going on?”
It's Luna, she's---she's---" before Elrohir could say anything more, Kerowyn turned and rushed over to her fallen friend. "Luna! Luna! Luna mellon-nin, wake up!" she began to shake her friend. "Wake up!" A crimson color flowed from her friends arm. Kerowyn cut off some of her friend's tunic and gasped. "Where's Linwe?"
"We don't know." Elrohir asked. He nor Elladan had yet to see the wound, so they were oblivious to the problem. Kerowyn nodded dully, "Uh, go fetch my pack Elladan, Elrohir get my waterskin and fill it with water. Now!" Kerowyn began to work on her friend, she didn't know as much as Linwe in the arts of healing, but Elrond had taught her and Luna enough if they were caught in a situation such as this. Kerowyn put both her hands on her friend's shoulder to stanch the bleeding. Blood leaked through her hands and she gasped as she pushed harder. "Don't you die on me now Luna. Don't! You promised me!" Kerowyn pushed harder until she felt the blood flow under her hands stop. "Thank you Valar." she breathed a sigh of relief. She sent a mental note to lindir, telling him to see to the wounded.
"Here's your pack Ker." Elladan put the pack beside her. Kerowyn reached into the pack and began mixing different herbs. "Good, now go help Lindir. Get the waterskin from your brother when he comes and don't let him over here whatever you do. Understand?" Elladan nodded and went to get the waterskin from his brother.
Kerowyn wiped the blood off her hands on her tunic and she put different herbs in her hands. Gandalf had taught her the gifts of healing magic, she planned on using her life force and some of the magic she had learned she had to help her friend. Elladan returned moments later and gave her the waterskin. She nodded her gratitude and sent him away, then began the task of healing on her friend.
~~~

"How many are injured?" Elrohir asked. "Atleast three dozen. We have healed two. Where's Ker?" Lindir asked, worried about his love. "She's helping Luna." Elrohir replied. The company fell silent, each wondering about the condition of their friend. "Well, let's get on with the healing." Lindir muttered and each turned to tend to the wounded army.

~~~
"The waves of the seas, hear my calls. Come to me." Kerowyn closed her eyes, one hand on her necklace, one on Luna's ring. "Fill this ring with your power, help your light guide her and bring her back." she muttered the words and the power of her life force stone go into the other on Luna's ring. She sighed and smiled as the stone showed color. She breathed a breath that she hadn't realized she'd been holding, then tried to remember the chant taught to her by Gandalf. "Light of dawn, break of day, healing powers come my way..." she muttered the rest of the chant under her breath and she sighed when she felt some energy flow out of her. She would have to wait to see how Luna stood to this before she used her elven healing powers.
She sighed and looked down at her friend. She looked a little better, but that wasn't good enough. She felt a hand on her shoulder and she jumped. "Calm down melleth nin." Lindir spoke while coming into her sight. "Your pale as a sheet." Kerowyn sighed, "I'm fine Lindir." Lindir sat down in front of her, "Sure you are. Every time you and Luna say that something's wrong." Lindir looked her over and gasped when he saw blood all over her hands, and tunic. "No Lindir, it's Luna's blood." Kerowyn replied. "Tell everyone we're moving out."
Lindir nodded and stood, still worried about the two, but did go and do as Kerowyn had asked. Kerowyn watched Lindir leave and she stood up. She wavered slightly but took some deep breaths to clear her head. "I will be okay." she whispered to herself, picked up her friend and walked toward the horses that would carry them home.
~~~

The stone on Luna's ring was growing dark again, like her own now. She was still weak from the journey, but she would make it there. She had to. "I can't slow down, I can't slow down..."

"Kerowyn!" Lindir yelled while watching her slip from the horse. Lindir jumped off his own and caught her just before she hit the ground. "What's wrong with you?" Kerowyn managed to get out of Lindir's grasp, "Nothing." Lindir grabbed her arm and stared at her. "Somethings different about you." The twins, Legolas, Searyn, and Linwe approached her.

Elrohir grabbed Luna and looked at Kerowyn. "What has happened to her?" Kerowyn gulped, "She was attacked, badly. We have to get her back to Rivendell."

The others nodded, Elrohir now taking Luna out of Kerowyn's hands. They didn't even have a second thought for Kerowyn, they only thought that it was because she was worried for her friend, and now they were too.

"Come along, we must make haste." Elrohir called. Kerowyn mounted her horse shakily, and tried to clear her head. Lindir nudged his horse closer to Kerowyns and took the reins.

“I’ll lead your horse, you rest.” Lindir said in a voice that brooked no argument. Kerowyn sighed and relinquished the reins. Within moments she felt her eyes close.

~~~
Linwe watched Luna’s extremely pale face. Something else was wrong, more than just a wounded shoulder. Linwe pulled her horse over to the litter that was carrying Luna and gave Luna a thorough once over. She noticed the odd angle of Luna’s arm, and deduced that it was broken. Linwe shook her head, she couldn’t tell anything more unless the party stopped, but they wouldn’t, for two reasons. One: Luna and Kerowyn’s conditions needed to be treated as soon as possible, and with more resources than what Linwe had with her, and two: the woods were incredibly dangerous at night, even more so than after a battle.
~Some hours later~
Elrohir turned, Luna moved in the litter. Elladan also turned in time to see a white hand go up to Luna’s brow. “Luna?!” Elladan asked, finally feeling like things were getting better. Luna nodded her head, too tired to try and speak. Linwe hurried over, and the group stopped.
“She’s awake, though, her ring has very little light in it, I think this is passing…” Linwe said.
“Water…” croaked Luna. Elrohir grabbed his water skin and held it to Luna’s mouth, she drank some and promptly fell unconscious again. Elrohir sighed, and Linwe held her hand to Luna’s forehead.
“We need to hurry…she has a fever. I’m beginning to think that one of the blades was poisoned!” Linwe said, urgency in her voice. That was all it took for the group to go even faster, and by sunset they were at the gates of Imladris.
As Elrohir expected, Elrond was waiting for them in the front gate, and he knew exactly how many were hurt. Luna…Kerowyn…and all of them had a nick or bruise from somewhere.
